Friday Talk, Sunday Potluck, & New Essay

(1) You're invited to a free talk I'll be giving on Nonviolence and Peace at 7 pm this Friday, Oct. 19, at the Des Moines Social Club in the old Kirkwood Hotel on the southwest corner of 4th & Locust in downtown Des Moines. It's part of the "Windows and Mirrors: Reflections on the War in Afghanistan" art exhibit there, sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee, which can be seen from 11-1 and 4-6 every day this week.

(2) You're invited to the Des Moines Meditation Group's Potluck at 6 pm this Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Friends Meeting House on the northwest corner of 42nd & Grand in Des Moines. Bring a dish to share. All are welcome.

(3) Click here to read my latest essay, "Promoting Meditation and Buddhism As Secular Practices," which I gave as a talk at the Inter-Religious Retreat, "Sharing Meditation Practices and Esoteric Rituals for the Betterment of the World" in Tokyo, Japan, Sept. 16-19. Twenty representatives of different religions around the world gave talks and led participants in a meditation, contemplative, or chanting practice of their religion.   It also appears under "Essays" listed on the right. Peace, Charlie
